A city as famous for its coffeeshops as Amsterdam is sure to have a lot of them. But not all are created equal. Many are grimy and dingy and don’t really set you up for an enjoyable high. But there are a few that are truly mind-blowing in their ambience and service.
One of the best examples is Smoke Palace, built underneath Linnaeusstraat (a street running north to Oosterpark). This popular subterranean smoke space has a refined, high-end feel and boasts lots of comfy seating for singles or groups. The menu features a good selection of world-class strains and they’re also known for their milkshakes (a must try if you visit).
Another great place is BIJ on Jonge Roelensteeg, a non-touristy favourite in the De Baarsjes neighbourhood. Their fantasy-themed decor is a sight to behold and their staff are professional and helpful. Their menu offers top-quality weed and hash along with some delicious rolled selections and space muffins.
If you want a more traditional experience then head to Relax Centrum on Oudezijds Voorburgwal, just a short walk from central Amsterdam station. This homely venue is a regular hangout for locals and has won many awards, such as second place in the 2022 High Life Cup with their Amnesia G13 strain.
Het Ballonnetje is a laidback breakaway near Artis Zoo and has been open since 1978. This small, cozy space is a true hidden gem where you can relax with friends or just chill on your own.
